Water Aid
May 2008

Spark members and supporters gathered at Mighty in San Francisco for Water Aid: A Myanmar Relief Event. Michelle Forte, CARE's Senior Director of Development for the Western Region, described the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Nargis and CARE's immediate response to the crisis. All proceeds from Water Aid were donated to CARE's Myanmar Cyclone Response Fund to ensure that the most vulnerable - female-headed households, mothers with young children, the ill and the elderly - are able to access clean drinking water and sanitation to prevent the spread of disease.



Cocktails for a Cause
April 2008

Spark members came together at Apartment 24 to raise a grant for the women of the Mandiso Water Pump Project in Madagascar. While mingling and sipping cocktails, 250 Spark members contributed to provide approximately 500 foot-powered water pumps to woman subsistence farmers.



Reading, Watching and Learning with Spark
March 2008

Spark and Human Rights Watch Network members screened Eva Mulvad's award-winning documentary Enemies of Happiness. The film was followed by a cocktail reception with the authors of Human Rights Watch's report Against Fear: Women's Participation in Afghanistan's 2005 Elections.



Nightlife Napa Valley at San Francisco's City Hall

Spark Speaker Series Featuring Anne Firth Murray

Renown global women's activist, intellectual and author Anne Firth Murray spoke before a captivated Spark audience at Hotel Vitale. Weaving artfully between anecdotes of her time as the Founding President of the Global Fund for Women and stories of the struggles and courageous acts of women facing systemic violence, Anne shed new light on innovations in women's human rights.



Spark's Annual Global Gala: The Black and Pink Ball

Over 600 Spark members and supporters mixed, mingled and danced the night away in support of girls' education at Spark's Second Annual Black and Pink Ball.

This film screening featured In the Tall Grass, a film by J. Coll Metcalfe, that tells the story of a Rwandan genocide survivor as she navigates through the historic community courts, "gacaca", in order to confront the neighbor she says killed her family, and the community that sanctioned the murders.



Spark's First Annual Global Gala�The Black and Pink Ball

Over 400 guests gathered at the W Hotel in San Francisco to raise $15,000 for grassroots women's organizations in Kenya, Jordan and San Francisco. This signature event featuring the famous San Francisco cover band Tainted Love.

Spark co-sponsored this event with the International Museum of Women, where award-winning Canadian filmmaker, Ric Bienstock previewed her acclaimed documentary Sex Slaves and provided an informative and chilling look at the exploitation of women in the global sex trade.

200 Spark members gathered to enjoy cocktails, each other and raise over $4,000 for Salima Sarwar of ACD in Bangladesh to support her work fighting the sex-trafficking issues in the region.

Spark Kickoff Event
