We're joining forces with Global Fund for Women!

by the Spark Board

We are thrilled to announce that Spark will be joining forces with Global Fund for Women! On November 1, Spark will transfer all its remaining assets to Global Fund for Women and begin to wind down its status as an independent entity.

What is Global Fund for Women?
Founded in 1987, Global Fund for Women is a renowned champion for women’s human rights. Global Fund for Women supports organizations around the world that are led by women, girls, and trans people fighting for justice in their communities. Last year alone Global Fund for Women awarded over $11 million to organizations in 70 countries.

Why Global Fund for Women?
Spark and Global Fund for Women have a long history together. When Spark was founded in 2005, we modeled our grantmaking after Global Fund for Women. Since then, Spark members have been pooling their resources to give small grants to grassroots women’s organizations, while Global Fund for Women does the same but also provides larger, often multi-year seed investments to similar women-led and focused organizations. Our work has always been complementary.

Why Now?
After over a decade of impact, Spark found itself a little too big to keep boot-strapping, and a little too small to support our grantees and members in all the ways they deserve. We are formalizing this relationship with Global Fund for Women now because we are excited about the impact Spark and its supporters can make with Global Fund for Women’s wealth of resources and experience.

What Next?
Global Fund for Women will soon share more information about how you can get involved in its amazing work. Please know that Global Fund for Women will handle all personal information according to its privacy policies, as set forth here and here. If you do not wish to be contacted by Global Fund for Women, please click here to let us know by Oct. 31.

Thank you – again and again and again – for all your support of Spark. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

With deep gratitude,

The Spark Board
