Spark
Raises $15,000 at its First Annual Global Gala: The Black and Pink Ball
(October,
2006)

Thank you so much for
helping to make Spark's First Annual Gala such an enormous success!
Those in attendance heard the inspiring stories of our honorees, Carmen
Ortiz, Lornah Kiplagat and Awa'3eena, all of whom have ignited global
change by empowering women in their own communities. Thanks to your
generosity, Spark raised $15,000 for these women, so they may
continue their efforts to provide support services: for Latina women
living with cancer in San Francisco, to train Kenyan girls to become
world-class runners, and to teach Jordanian women the skills to run a
business.
Spark would like to extend a special thank you to its sponsors:
Inforum, Jetset, Splendora, 7X7 Magazine,
SABA, Real Girls Media, IDEX, Young Women Social Entrepreneurs, UNAFF,
Emerge California, Tango Diva, Ladies Who Launch, Parnassus Investments,
SupaSistaLatina.com, Woman International Magazine, International Museum of
Women, and UPS.
Also, Spark would like to
thank its spectacular host committee, and in particular, the following
hosts who went above and beyond to make this event a success:
Stephen Dodson, Byron Rodriguez, Chanda
Keefe, Rana Turk, Megan Kelly, Eileen Bissen, Peter Sims, Preston Becker,
Sara Keane, Michelle Watts, Sabrina Pourmond, and Fiona Hsu.
Finally thank you to all of our volunteers, without your efforts this
event could not have happened. Spark has many exciting plans for the coming months, including a
delegation trip to Jordan at the end of October and a goal of hiring an
executive director for 2007, to enable us to take the organization to the
next level. Thank you all for your continued support of our mission
to engage young professionals in raising money and awareness about women
around the world who are making change in their communities.
Spark's
Film Screening Exposes the Trafficking of Women
(June,
2006)

Award-winning
Canadian filmmaker Ric Esther Bienstock joined a sold-out San Francisco
audience for Spark's screening of her acclaimed documentary, Sex Slaves,
providing an informative and chilling look at the exploitation of women in
the global sex trade. Also addressing the crowd was Canadian Consul
Tristan Landry, who spoke of the progress Canada is making on this issue.
The International Forum of the World Affairs Council and the Canadian
Consulate co-sponsored the program.

Igniting
Change in Rwanda
(April,
2006)
In 2004, Spark held
its Kickoff Event to raise money for the women of Abuhujamatima, a Rwandan
widows' group struggling to rebuild their lives. In all, Spark collected
$4000 to support their efforts. Click
