Spark Delegation to Juarez
Mexico, June 2005
In April of 2005, Spark launched a program to educate San
Francisco young professionals on the hundreds of young women
in Mexican border towns have been the victims of abduction,
rape, and murder in a horrific epidemic that began over a
decade ago. Spark raised $3,000 for three groups in Juarez,
Mexico attempting to bring justice for and put a stop to the
murders and disappearances. Spark’s delegation to Mexico
brought six young women from San Francisco to see the work
of these groups first-hand. As a part of its advocacy
campaign, Spark also met directly with government officials,
demanding that action be taken to stop the femicides.
